Deluxe EP & Infomercial Available Now!

August 5th, 2011 · Uncategorized

So while I’m touring and working on the new album, I thought I should at least release something in the meantime, and here ’tis: The Sofa City Sweetheart EP is now available on Bandcamp!

I know this doesn’t seem too exciting, I released this EP years ago, BUT Bandcamp makes it really easy to spice things up, so thanks to that, I’m releasing a “Deluxe” version of the EP, which includes the following goodies:

• All 5 original tracks (duh)
• 5 Bandcamp exclusive BONUS tracks, including demos and alternate mixes
•  Digital booklet
• Alternate art files that were never used
• PDF lead sheets for two songs containing note-for-note melody trancsriptions and chord changes

What’s the best part about all this?  You can name your price.  This is great for people that already own the EP, and want the bonus stuff for free, but if you don’t own it yet you can buy it for any price you like.  Simply click “Buy Now” under the digital album option, and enter any number from 0-1,000,000.  You can also buy a physical copy on CD if you like, and still get all the bonus stuff with it.  Everybody wins!

Oh yeah, there’s this too, please enjoy and watch repeatedly:

Thanks to my good friend Crystal for all the hard work on that, you’re amazing Crystal!  Finally, the Super Summer Tour starts today folks, hope to see you soon!

SXSW 2011 Tour Recap

June 28th, 2011 · Uncategorized

Alright, I know I said I was going to update the site and do a tour recap in a timely manner, but things have been completely insane at the Sofa City Sweetheart factory lately!  This is no good for blog updates, but very good for other things as I’ve been simultaneously recording a full-length album, booking a Midwest tour, and coordinating a music video shoot.  If you’ve ever done any of those things, you know it takes a bit of time.  So apologies dear friends, but rest assured that you’ll hear more and more about these projects as the summer shines on.

But it’s been long enough. Let’s recap this tour already.

What can I say about the SXSW tour?  Well, it was great.  I saw so much in such a small amount of time and visited several states, climates, restaurants, and people… not enough can be said about how awesome the USA is.  I really dig being an American after being able to enjoy so much of it.

Packing only the essentials for SXSW.

The tour started off with my flight landing me in Dallas, TX and Normandie picking me up (she had DRIVEN to Texas from San Diego) for our first show a few hours later in Grapevine.  It was a little too convenient for us because the venue we were playing was about 10 minutes away from the airport (tours usually include horrendous drives and I’m still not sure how the planets aligned on this one.)  Grapevine was actually a really cool little town that had an old timey downtown area, you should stop by if you ever visit Dallas.  This show was a nice warm up gig, we played with bands from Seattle, Santa Cruz, and Virginia.  Before the last band even played we had to race over to Austin for our two days at South By Southwest.  If you’ve never been to SXSW, here is a taste:

Flaming Lips at Hollywood Forever

June 15th, 2011 · Uncategorized

I was fortunate enough to watch The Flaming Lips perform The Soft Bulletin in its entirety just a few hours ago at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.  No combination of words can be formed to describe a Flaming Lips show, so I took over 100 pictures to do that for me.  Enjoy!  They’re playing again tonight, performing all of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon.  It’s sold out so if you can’t make it, find a scalper or try to get to one of the remaining shows on the tour.  Every American should see The Flaming Lips before they die.

Recent Videos

April 6th, 2011 · Uncategorized

Hey everybody!  I’ve been back from tour for about a week and a half now, and am planning a big tour recap post with pictures and everything, but for now please enjoy these recent videos that have popped up on the good ol’ internet.

For all you video game nerds out there, this first video is a live performance of me playing the Super Mario Bros. 2 Theme live in St. Louis, Missouri.  I play all the parts at the same time using my brand new looping pedal!

This next one was filmed during the Elliott Smith covers night.  I’m featured during the second half of the video (starting around the 5:45 mark) performing “Happiness” and giving a short interview for The Eye Magazine.

I’m not sure if this last one will work, (I think you have to be logged into Facebook) but it’s a video of me playing drums for Normandie during our show at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln, Nebraska.  I’m not the world’s best drummer or anything, but if you know me you know I LOVE playing drums, and I always have a lot of fun whenever I get a chance to play.  CLICK HERE to see the video.  We didn’t rehearse at all and it was our first time playing the song together live… not bad I say!

More goods coming soon!
